LUMBAR REGION:

Injuries at the lumbar level most likely affect functioning of the leg muscles (including hip flexors) but sitting balance is usually very good.

For women and men with lumbar injuries there can be potential for walking with assistance but most are stable and more mobile sitting. Sports such as swimming and tennis are common.

Bladder, bowel, and sexual functioning are also affected at this level.
